Pretty much everyone knows that my husband was laid off in November 2010. He took some time to figure out what he want to pursue. We talked about everything from him going back into the service, to moving out of state, to moving overseas, to just staying put and finding something closer to where we already live.
We decide to try and pursue something closer to home. so on March 12, 2011 he tested with Conroe Police Department. He passed his test, passed the physical agility portion of the test, filled out his application, turned it in and then the waiting game began!! We did not hear anything from anyone for about a month. He finally decide to email the Sgt in charge of the hiring process and he received an email back stating that they were still looking for officers and that "he (Kane) was being considered as one of them). So, again we waited for that phone call. Finally, he got the call early May and he went in on May 16th for his interview. I took a half day from work so I could be home when we got the news and sure enough he got the job!!!
They told him the academy would start June 1st. Well June 1st came and went, then it was middle of June, end of June, beginning of July...so on so on...finally July 21st he started work after being laid off for almost a year!!!
The past 6 months has been the longest 6 months. Finally, we were closing the chapter to the longest year that we both have been through.
Then, Kane's accident came. It was the second to the last week in the academy. They were going through their tazing class. Kane was the first one to volunteer to be tazed. Well the tazer hit Kane in the spine and through his body into shock. He was rushed to the ER with multiple things going on. He had x-rays, blood work, the works and come to find out he broke his back right between the shoulder blades. There was talk of possible surgery to correct his back. We did not know what was going to happen. All I thought about was that I am so happy that my husband is alive a well, but WHY...why two weeks before we can close this long chapter, does this happen!! Well, everyone I know...family, friends, co-workers, my church family, everyone pulled together and we just prayed...I have never prayed so much in my life then I did that night in the hospital. The next morning came, I went home to get cleaned up and around lunchtime Kane called and said no surgery!!! His Sgt. was there and they said he could graduate and go to work on light duty!! I got off the phone and just cried...I cried so hard because I know that everything was going to be okay and that once again God showed me to never give up faith in him.
Kane left the hospital on Saturday to go home. He was home for two day before we had to go back to the hospital because he had a staph-infection...ughh. Well he was admitted for the staph and for a blood clot. When all said was done he was in the hospital till Thursday, was released with no blood clot (thank you to a wonderful nurse who double checked the paperwork) and we went home!!
On January 5th, 2012 I had the honor of pinning my husband with his new badge. I am so proud of him that words can not explain. He stuck with it and got us through the craziness!! Our relationship is so much stronger because of what we have been through. I thank God each and every single day for him!! Here are some pictures from the Graduation!!! Enjoy:)
